Undoubtedly, Steve Irwin will always be an Aussie icon. His environmentalism and animal rights advocacy are widely respected, even to this day. And rightly so. He made a huge mark on the country, and the world, for that matter. Now, his vision and legacy live on not only with Australia Zoo but with The Crocodile Hunter Lodge, a luxury retreat that has opened its doors on the Sunshine Coast, courtesy of the Irwin family.
The Crocodile Hunter Lodge gives guests the chance to share their stay with some of Australia’s native wildlife. Red kangaroos, emus and koalas live at the lodge in their multi-species habitat. Admire the animals while you take a dip in The Billabong, a 25m infinity pool overlooking the wilderness.
The lodge is also home to the Warrior Bar and Restaurant, which serves up everything from decadent meals made with fresh local produce to delicious cocktails.
The rustic self-contained cabins boast a spacious deck with a view, with two bedrooms, catering to families or groups. Each stay comes complete with complimentary breakfast, unlimited entry to Australia Zoo for the duration of your visit, as well as a welcome gift, room service and more.
On opening The Crocodile Hunter Lodge with the family, Terri Irwin said, “Steve always had a dream that one day, people would not just visit Australia Zoo, but stay overnight, and have the immersive experience of listening to and being around wildlife after dark. It was so important for us to make his dream come true through the opening of The Crocodile Hunter Lodge. This stunning luxury accommodation is surrounded by our conservation work, providing a home to endemic wildlife species while further continuing Steve’s important legacy.”
