Since its beginnings in Sydney, TokyoTaco’s unique flavour-first fusion approach to Japanese and Mexican culinary creations has been making waves. Fittingly, on June 18, they brought their signature laidback vibe to the Sunshine Coast with an 80-seat venue just metres from the ocean.
Designed to feel as vibrant as the TokyoTaco menu — which features highlights like the Miso Baked Salmon Taco layered with Japanese mayo and caramelised chilli sauce, and the cult-favourite TacoFries seasoned with their own salt — this new space in Mooloolaba brings together vibrancy, thanks to the restaurant’s recognisable orange colour, and beachside ease.
In keeping with this culinary marriage theme, the interiors strike a playful balance between Japanese minimalism and Mexican warmth, exploring the contrasts and similarities between the two cultures, with a focus on the welcoming values they share. There is indoor and outdoor seating, making it the ideal setting for breezy meals — or drinks, as the venue also includes a full-service bar and coffee operations —shared in good company.
This beautiful location, where ocean meets coast, is also where sashimi meets salsa, tequila meets tempura, nigiri meets nachos, crispy meets crunchy, and two of the best cuisines in the world combine in order to make something entirely new that’ll make your taste buds sing. TokyoTaco Mooloolaba’s offerings are not just unapologetically bold and inventive, but also inclusive, with low-gluten, vegetarian, and plant-based options.
But you don’t have to just take our word for it! To celebrate the opening, TokyoTaco will be giving away a whopping 500 free tacos, by ordering via their app, during the weekend of June 28 to June 29, so get those orders in early!
