A $30 bottle of South Australian red wine has been named the best shiraz in Australia. Kirrihill’s 2019 Partner Series Clare Valley Shiraz even managed to beat a wine costing $250 a bottle. It’s a reminder to us, perhaps, that sometimes the fancier, more expensive wines aren’t actually as good.
The crowning went down at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, one of Australia’s most prestigious wine shows. Some of the most delicious Shiraz producers in the country were judged on the taste of their drops. Clare Valley’s Kirrihill Wines snapped up the title of having Australia’s best shiraz. Their soft juicy 2019 Partner Series Clare Valley Shiraz—which was going for just $30—even sold out due to unprecedented demand for the wine. And although the wine in question has sold out, you can still snag bottles of their multi-award-winning Regional Series Clare Valley Shiraz at Dan Murphy’s, as well as siblings in the Partners Series from the Kirrihill Wines website.
