Rainforest Green has been transformed into Lost Worlds Cinema: The Most Wonderful Time. This hidden, festive open-air cinema brought a variety of classic Christmas films, such as The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Night Before, spreading cheer to families from December 15 to December 23 thanks to Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) and South Bank.
Now, as Santa begins the longest-ever night shift, The Most Wonderful Time is wrapping up — both the season and the event — but don’t despair, something more dangerous is stirring just beyond the treeline, to make summer thrilling!
From January 9 to Feburary 15, Lost Worlds Cinema is roaring into Rainforest Green with Wild Summer, a program with more excitement than you’ll know what to do with.
Together with South Bank, BIFF is making every kid’s (literal or figurative) dream come true by bringing a fourth dimension to films set in cinema’s favourite backdrop: the jungle. Imagine watching Jurassic Park from inside the park, or seeing Arnie take down Predator from inside the jungle. Across five summer weekends Lost Worlds Cinema has curated the wild, weird and wondrous to cater for all ages, tastes and appetites for adventure.
There will be everything from traditional animation that’ll take us on a journey through the ages, like The Land Before Time or Disney’s The Jungle Book, all-time classics like King Kong and The Mission, edge-of-you-seat adventures such as The Mummy and Jumanji, and even a documentary on beloved primatologist, the late Jane Goodall.
Forget the home cinema or the theatre, what could be more fun than truly immersing yourself in the wild, beautiful, yet at times dangerous world of the jungle, with a backdrop that can’t be replicated or matched? Wild Summer brings the escapism back to the movies in a cool — and affordable — way, just in time for the summer holidays!
